Flawless install on 2009 Macbook, 2010-08-05
I purchased this full version so I could load it on my Macbook via bootcamp and it worked flawlessly. I really like this version of windows. We use XP at work and it was great for a while especially after win 95 but Win 7 is incredible. We skipped Vista so this upgrade was long overdue. Everything seems to work better. The Adobe CS 5 suite is amazing on Win 7. I wish there were better font management options. All in good time I assume.
     Buy It, 2010-08-02
I just built a new computer.Nothing fancy or high-perfomance.I had installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my new system, but soon realized that I wanted Windows installed along side it.Coming straight from XP Home Edition I've found this a really good upgrade/step up.A little getting used to getting around and everything is now familiar.I never had Vista so I didn't deal with any of the headaches that I read about. The OEM version of this operating system may be a better buy for you though. For me,I figured a little more cash(on sale)and I own it,can install on a later system if I need to and have a chance to try out both the 32 bit and 64 bit setups.I'm currently running the 64 bit and enjoying utilizing the whole of my 4 gigs of RAM.If you've been holding out by sticking with XP,this is a good operating system to move up to.Just as good as XP,if not better.Definitely faster.I only give it 4 stars because,as with any operating system - none are perfect.I would also give XP and my preferred Ubuntu 4 stars. So please don't let the rating sway you.
     Nothing special, 2010-08-01
The biggest advantage I found is the system security when I am being asked about password before something significant is done to the system.

Except security, there is nothing special about Windows 7. None of the new features make a large difference in every day use. Many things are once again moved around just to confuse previous version users. Of course, now we have the "best" reincarnation of the Start Menu and TaskBar, but I am used to it: every new Windows version has the "best" and "improved" Start Menu and Task Bar.

Things that I would like to see in a 5-start/perfect OS:
    1. Start in less than 10 seconds,
    2. Shutdown < 2 seconds,
    3. Virus-proof system without anti-virus software,
    4. Some standard solutions for hardware video acceleration so video plays well on all new computers,
    5. Standard data encryption,
    6. Sharing user profile between computers over the Internet,
    7. Maybe, OS should include optional software for most popular tasks: email, photo management, simple editor with spelling, spreadsheet etc,
    8. Ability to switch system language,
    9. Simpler file/folder security,
    10. Improved practical usability of OS included tools, for example,
    a) the snipping tool should automatically save screen shots,
    b) sound record should not require to save before playing etc,
     Finally!, 2010-07-31
I haven't been a PC user for all that long; perhaps 10 years, so I've only seen Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Vista. I suppose that's enough to know when an operating system has reached a pinnacle. Windows 7 is the version that finally excels. Faster, easier to use, better in general. Every good feature, broken or useless in previous versions, has been repaired or made better. The only complaint I have over Windows Vista is that they removed the calendar and e-mail program in favor of Windows Live, which I do not like. Overall, a good buy.
     Windows 7 Home Premium, 2010-07-28
The software installation process is quite hassle-free. It is "set it and forget it" simple. Not like Win XP which required someone to remain next to the PC while the installation progressed. The software was installed on a laptop, but I've done installations at my place of work and rarely a problem occurs. Just remember, to install this software on an XP machine, it must be a complete install, NOT AN UPGRADE. You can only upgrade (preserve settings and files) from a Vista installation.
