TouchSmart software buggy, 2010-03-08
I had high hopes for this product. Other reviews said that the HP touch software made this the touch screen to get over Sony. The product was easy to set up and I was up and running in no time. I started playing with the TouchSmart apps right away. It was a little sluggish but acceptable. The Hulu app kept telling me that there was an update. I would select update and the new hulu app would download and install. Next time I went into hulu the same thing happened...over and over. I spent over two hours on the phone with HP tech support. Very nice people but they could not solve this issue. They had me re-install the OS and it still happened. I went to google and there seem to be many folks with this same issue. I decided Hulu was not all that important right now.
This morning I get a notification that there are some TouchSmart updated from HP and would I like to install them. Sure. I initiate the updates. After about 10 minutes I get an alert that setup.exe could not be found. Please make sure that it is where it is suppose to be. The updates failed. I guess I can try to resolve but this is starting to feel more like a science experiment and not a finished consumer product.
Perfect Gift for Mom, 2010-03-08
Bought this as a birthday gift for my mother, who wanted something to (1) check email and (2) update her iPod. She is not a computer person. I hoped by getting her this, and having it stuck on a kitchen counter, she'd use it to do those things, and maybe venture out to do more.
Mission accomplished. She's using it on a daily basis--video calls on Skype, playing video games with my niece (her granddaughter), playing videos on Hulu...you name it.
Its lack of portability is actually a plus. A laptop is easy appropriated by others in the household. Same thing goes for lack of video inputs. Nobody is hooking the 360/PS3 up to this. This is mom's computer.
It is also used daily by my niece--age < 8. The "bloat-ware" games apparently come with a sticker shock after a few trys, so beware those of you with young kids. Refusing to pay $20 for polar bear bowling to a child who's really into it ain't fun...but the price is just too outrageous.
Couldn't be happier with the purchase. Never thought I'd be receiving video calls from mom. We feel like the Jetsons!
Oh and it's a touch screen by the way!, 2010-03-04
Very nice, well constructed product. The best reasons for getting this would be the looks and all-in-one integration. Otherwise, you could piece together a traditional desktop with similar specs for nearly half the price. I hardly ever use the touchscreen so that part was a bit of a waste. Nevertheless, it's not that expensive for amount of value it delivers.
Dont waste your money on a TouchSmart PC!!!, 2010-02-22
HP TouchSmart 600 review. I can only blame myself for buying something trendy and cool looking. Flys and bugs are attracted to the screen and can open docs by landing on it so if you live in the country this is not the PC for you. What a hassle. Also I purchased 2 of these and 1 of the screens is dramatically distorted after only 6 months of very light use. You can buy a very good computer for this kind of money and I suggest you keep looking. HP brought this to market way to early and the design and function needs a few more years for them to get it right and unless HP can get Steve Jobs and Mac's design team to come work for them I would avoid this purchase at all cost. Works well for movies as it far better suited as a TV! Bad for business PC and the system should be renamed TouchDumb.
Love HP!!, 2010-02-11
Before I ordered this, I was looking at an Acer touchscreen but it did not have a large enough hard drive and did not come with a tv tuner. I love that feature about this computer, as I sit at my desk all day and I like to watch some shows. I can turn the TV on, have a small box open at the top of the screen, work away and still enjoy my shows. The Touch Screen is great even though I don't use it that often for work, my granddaughter loves it for her games. I highly recommend this computer to anyone interested in fast, big screen, TV tuner and touch screen! HP products are the best in my opinion..
